Enterprise Architect (Interim)

Table of Contents

When delivery is slowed by unclear ownership, conflicting priorities, or decisions that have nowhere to go, the problem often extends beyond any one solution.

I join your organization as an interim enterprise architect to clarify responsibilities, establish workable decision rights, and shape the operating model around digital delivery. With an agreed mandate, I lead this work with your leadership and teams and stay involved as the changes take effect.

When to Bring Me In

  • Decisions stall because ownership or authority is unclear.
  • Responsibilities overlap across teams, while important work falls between them.
  • A reorganization or change in strategy requires a different way of working.
  • A target operating model has been defined but has not taken hold.
  • You need continuity and progress while recruiting a permanent enterprise architect.

What I Take Responsibility For

A clear picture of the current situation. Understanding how services and digital solutions are delivered today, where responsibilities sit, and which gaps or conflicts are affecting delivery.

Ownership backed by decision rights. Working with leaders and teams to establish who is responsible for what, which decisions they can make, and how issues are resolved when responsibilities cross boundaries.

An operating model that fits your organization. Connecting services, roles, team responsibilities, and governance to your strategic goals and delivery constraints.

Changes put into practice. Turning the agreed direction into manageable steps, supporting the people taking on responsibilities, and adjusting the model as experience reveals what needs to change.

How the Engagement Works

I start with the decisions and delivery problems that need attention. I work with the people involved to understand how responsibilities and authority function in practice, including where the formal structure differs from everyday work.

Together with the relevant leaders, I establish the scope, mandate, and priorities for the engagement. I then lead the work to resolve ownership gaps, agree decision rights, and put the necessary governance in place.

Changes are introduced in steps that account for ongoing delivery and the organization’s capacity to absorb them. I stay involved as teams use the new arrangements, helping resolve friction and helping the people who will own these arrangements take over confidently.

The engagement is delivered through Alpha Phase Consulting AB, with scope and duration shaped around the changes you need.

A Structure That Works in Practice

I start from the services your organization provides and work back to the responsibilities, decisions, and capabilities needed to deliver them.

That includes distinguishing roles from job titles, making ownership explicit, and keeping governance close to the work it supports. You can read more in Design Your Operating Model or It Will Design You.

The aim is clearer routes to decisions, fewer gaps and overlaps in responsibility, and an organization that can maintain and evolve the arrangements after the engagement ends.
