Enterprise Operating Model โ€” Team Enablement

Capability, Not Dependency

The EO Model and EO Platform are developed under Alpha Phase Studio AB. Putting the model to work inside an organization is a different kind of work โ€” and that is where Alpha Phase Consulting AB comes in.

An operating model that only works while someone is watching it is not an operating model. It is a project. This builds the organizationโ€™s own capability to design and run its structure: to exercise the decision rights it has been given, and to govern without escalating everything. Enterprise Architect (Interim) is a narrower, special-case engagement โ€” for when a specific structural gap needs someone hands-on to implement it directly โ€” not the default route to get here. The measure of success is that I am no longer needed.

What It Addresses

The EO Model argues that ownership without authority is decoration. The corollary is that authority without capability is just as inert โ€” decision rights handed to people who have never had to exercise them get quietly deferred back upward, and the old structure reasserts itself.

A management team that has not learned the model cannot run it, no matter how well-designed it is. Enablement is teaching the people holding decision rights the model itself, then getting them exercising it on real decisions โ€” not training material handed over and left, but governance that is actually functioning by the time the engagement closes.

Learning the Model

Before decision rights can be exercised deliberately, the people holding them need to understand the model โ€” the structural dimension, and the difference between assigned ownership and real authority โ€” grounded in your organizationโ€™s actual reporting lines and live decisions rather than taught in the abstract. Sessions are built around decisions your management team is already facing, so what is learned is immediately the thing being run.

Applying It to Your Organization

Learning the modelโ€™s structure is the easy part; the harder part is mapping it onto reporting lines and decision habits that already exist and were not built with the model in mind.

Ownership mapped to real authority โ€” checking that ownership assigned on paper actually carries the decision rights to make it real, not just a name attached to a responsibility nobody can act on.

Structure applied before process or capability โ€” the model treats structure as the precondition for the other two dimensions; applying it means resolving who owns what and who decides before touching how work gets done or who is capable of doing it, so the sequence does not get reversed under pressure to show progress.

Running It Without Me

The model has to survive after the engagement ends, which means the management team needs to be the one running it, not watching it run.

Coaching on real decisions โ€” working with the people newly holding decision rights on real decisions, as they arise, so the reasoning becomes theirs rather than something they inherited in a document.

Train-the-trainer โ€” building capability in internal leads so governance keeps functioning, and keeps getting taught, after I leave.

Reading the model against reality โ€” building the habit of noticing when the structure is fighting the work, and treating that as evidence about the model rather than a failure of compliance. This is also what feeds EO Model Custom Adaptation when the gap turns out to be in the model itself.

My Approach

This work goes in the order above: the model has to be learned before decision rights can be exercised deliberately, and exercised before the management team can run governance without me. Each stage happens on real decisions โ€” your reporting lines, your committees, your actual friction points โ€” so what is learned is immediately the thing in use, not a separate exercise.

My focus throughout is the same: making your organization self-sufficient in running the model.

A Good Fit If

You have an operating model on paper that nobody is really running. Ownership was assigned but decisions still escalate. Governance forums exist but do not decide anything. Or an interim engagement put the structure in place and you want it to survive without one.

If you need someone to hold the seat and implement a specific structural change hands-on, that is Enterprise Architect (Interim). If the gap is process and capability inside a delivery team rather than the organization around it, that is DSLC Team Enablement. If the model itself does not quite fit your organizationโ€™s structure, that is EO Model Custom Adaptation.
