Digital Solution Life Cycle Model β€” Custom Adaptation

Table of Contents

When the Model Doesn’t Quite Fit

The DSLC Model is deliberately opinionated β€” that is what makes it predictable rather than a framework of open choices. But opinionated also means it will not fit every organization exactly as published: a regulatory environment with classification requirements the model does not yet cover, capability sets that map differently onto how your teams are actually structured, or layer boundaries that do not match your architecture.

Custom adaptation is the work of reshaping the model itself β€” not the tooling, the model β€” to a specific enterprise context, without losing the discipline that makes it work.

What the Work Covers

Classification tier design β€” defining the risk, criticality, and data sensitivity criteria that actually match your regulatory and business environment, so the model activates the right weight of process for your real portfolio.

Capability set mapping β€” adapting the eight capability sets to how your organization is actually structured, where roles, titles, or team boundaries do not map cleanly onto the model as published.

Process and layer adaptation β€” adjusting which processes activate within each phase, and how the five layers apply, where your architecture or delivery structure diverges from the model’s assumptions.

Pattern libraries for your context β€” building the structural and non-functional patterns specific to your industry or regulatory environment, so the model’s OODA validation loop has the right baseline to measure against.

Still the Same Discipline

This is not a bespoke model built from scratch, and it is not the published model applied unchanged. It is the same underlying discipline β€” classification governs process, every activity has an owner, documentation is first-class β€” adapted at the points where your organization’s reality diverges from the general case.

Publication and the License

The model is published openly, and by default, adaptations built on it are expected to be published too β€” contributed back so the model itself benefits from what your context surfaced. That is the default, not a courtesy. If you need to keep a specific adaptation private β€” a classification scheme or pattern library that reveals more about your regulatory position or structure than you want public β€” that is available as a separate license exempting that adaptation from the publication requirement, priced accordingly. The exemption license is available on its own, too β€” if your team does the adaptation itself, you do not need to engage me for the work to get it.

A Good Fit If

The DSLC Model is close but not quite right for your organization β€” a regulatory requirement it does not cover, a capability structure it does not map onto, or an architecture it does not quite describe.

If the model already fits and what you need is the tooling adapted, that is DSLC Platform Custom Development. If the model fits and what you need is the team enabled to run it, that is DSLC Team Enablement. If you need someone to hold the architecture seat on a specific solution, that is Solution Architect (Interim).
